The Sewing Project 2015 – Jo helps Somali refugees learn how to sew

Jo and the Graduation class

Jo has been busily assisting a group of 10 Somalian refugees that were part of a project that was hosted by Self Help Queensland recently.  The Somali Sewing Project 2015 was aimed at teaching these beautiful refugee women a skill that will provide them with the confidence to sew their own clothing.  Self Help Queensland has been a friend of Sewco for many years and when Trish contacted us and asked if we could provide a teacher, Jo was more than happy to pass on her vast sewing knowledge during these classes.  As many of these women are Somali, Jo enjoyed having Ahmed and Maree assisting with the classes and aiding her with interpreting to ensure that her instructions were understood.  Sewco is very proud of these women completing these classes, enjoyed a ceremony with State Member Peter Russo, Councillor Steven Huang, and President of SHQ Joe Soda who proudly handed them their Completion Certificates.
